Saint Vrain Creek Corridor – Longmont, CO
Overview
After severe flooding in 2013, the need to manage the St. Vrain floodplain was clear. As a part of the floodplain mitigation strategy the adjacent land uses were studied; specifically how the community envisions their relationship to the St. Vrain corridor and potential for redevelopment. Light industrial uses have already begun to feel pressure to redevelop and it was MIG’s task to help the community identify and understand the form that these could take on over time.
Challenge
Find the right balance between ecological preservation and development intensity.
Outcome
A 500 year flood lead to delays, which lead to significant turnover on the city council and an orphaned final draft of the plan.
